2025 FEATURED PROJECT

The Methodist Country House
Location: Wilmington, DE
Fire Department: Talleyville Fire Company
Assisting Organization: Acts Retirement-Life Communities
The Methodist Country House is a sprawling senior living retirement community that underwent a massive renovation to expand the amount of housing, entertainment, and dining features. The fire department had difficulty navigating the community and understanding the associated fire protection systems.

Our team worked with fire department leadership in the development of pre-incident plans for over 50 of the jurisdictions high-hazard occupancies. Four additional pre-incident plans are in progress, in addition to the off-line mapping systems.
The goals of the pre-incident plans have been outlined as follows for all 64 pre-incident plans to be completed:
- Floor plans and interior imagery of each occupancy, designed and organized in the same format to allow for ease of use during emergency responses.
- Drone imagery to assist in roof
surveys, identifying hazards that
are not visible from the ground
during operations.
- Upload of the pre-incident
plans to Active911 to ensure
ease of access for the township
departments and mutual aid
organizations.
- Updates every 1, 2, or 3 years
based on occupancy to ensure
the accuracy of the pre-incident
plans.

Application of Structural Pre-Plans Series 3
Members and all four career shifts of Stations 11, 13, and 25 attended four training events at the Brandywine Hundred Apartments to run mock box alarms. Stretching and positioning on the large type 2 Y-shaped mid-rises, members stretched over ## feet of line throughout the occupancies.

Upon receiving an apartment number, or other sub-address within the building, members stretched on the building utilizing either racks, pre-connects, or a leader line.

Operating members and incident command had the ability to reference the floor plans to make a quick 30-second decision.

Two years before this training, fire units were dispatched to the same occupancy for a reported fire in an apartment, finding fire showing from the 2nd floor. The entire box alarm, as well as a second alarm, operated to extinguish the fire and complet searches, but some lessons were learned.
