ROOF APPLIANCES
AN OVERVIEW OF ROOF APPLIANCES, THEIR USES, AND OPERATION

MECHANICAL VENTILATION

UPBLAST CENTRIFUGAL FANS
There are two main types of exhaust fans available for use in commercial kitchens and restaurants: upblast and downblast exhaust fans. An upblast fan exhausts or blows air up and away from the fan.
These fans are reliable for ventilating smoke and grease and are commonly used for commercial cooking ventilation.
These fans are commonly belt-driven.

DOWNBLAST CENTRIFUGAL FANS
There are two main types of exhaust fans available for use in commercial kitchens and restaurants: upblast fan and downblast exhaust fan. A downblast fan actually blows air back down towards the fan base after pulling it up through the ductwork.
Downblast fans are more commonly used for exhausting odors, and are not as protected from grease, oils, and moisture as upblast fans are. These fans are commonly belt-driven.

"BOX VENT"
Box vents are commonly used to ventilate attic spaces or supply air handler units inside of the structure.
The vents pictured to the left sare being used for air supply of air handlers in the attic.

"POWER VENT"
Power vents are commonly used to ventilate attic and void spaces, and are only operational when the motors are powered by electricity. These vents do not move a lot of air compared to mechanical fans such as the upblast fans.

MAKE-UP AIR VENT
Power vents are commonly used to ventilate attic and void spaces, and are only operational when the motors are powered by electricity. These vents do not move a lot of air compared to mechanical fans such as the upblast fans.

NATURAL VENTILATION

GABLE VENT
Turbine vents are commonly used to ventilate attic and void spaces, and are only operational in about 5-6 miles per hour or more of wind. These vents do not move a lot of air compared to mechanical fans such as the upblast fans.

RIDGE VENT
Turbine vents are commonly used to ventilate attic and void spaces, and are only operational in about 5-6 miles per hour or more of wind. These vents do not move a lot of air compared to mechanical fans such as the upblast fans.

TURBINE VENT
Turbine vents are commonly used to ventilate attic and void spaces, and are only operational in about 5-6 miles per hour or more of wind. These vents do not move a lot of air compared to mechanical fans such as the upblast fans.
